"C anadian Life and Health Insurance Facts", 2014 Edition presents authoritative, factual information about life and health insurance in Canada. It is published by the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA). Established in 1894, the CLHIA includes in its present-day membership virtually all life and health insurance providers in Canada and is a major source of information about life and health insurance in this country. The current edition includes information about the life insurance, annuity and health insurance business of all federally registered and provincially incorporated insurance providers in Canada (including property and casualty insurers), unless stated otherwise. Wherever possible, figures presented here relate to the Canadian life and health insurance business of companies of all national origins. However, in a few cases, the numbers relate only to the worldwide business of Canadian companies. The sources of information for this publication include life and health insurance companies, property and casualty insurance companies, fraternal benefit societies, provincial Blue Cross organizations and other not-for-profit health care benefit providers, government agencies and regulatory bodies, and other associations. Their assistance is acknowledged with thanks. Note: For the first time, figures for fraternal benefit societies, provincial Blue Cross organizations and other not-for-profit health care benefit providers are included in this 2014 Edition. Figures since 2000 have been restated on the same basis to include all these life and health insurance providers. 08.2014 REV F.T.
