Chair's Message Board of Directors President's Message Members Review of The Year's Results CLHIA Officers Meeting the Challenges As members of the CLHIA, we of course expect our association to represent us effectively in the many files that we have with our governments. In these areas, the CLHIA has served us very well over the past year. For example, the Association was successful in fighting the Senate bill to ban genetic "discrimination" by insurers in the underwriting process. On pension plans, the CLHIA has been leading the charge for the broader financial services sector, noting the significant weaknesses associated with the Ontario Registered Pension Plan, while continuing to promote the quick passage of legislation for Pooled Registered Pension Plans. PRPP legislation has now been introduced or passed at the federal level and in six provinces. These are only two examples of many complex issues that Over the past year, the industry has had to face many significant challenges. I believe that this is at least in part due to our growing profile as a diverse and dynamic participant in the financial services sector. As our industry continues to evolve and broaden the types of products and services we provide to Canadians, we are increasingly touching their lives on so many more levels than we have in the past. While this comes with the satisfaction that we are offering value and meeting the needs of our customers, it is also incumbent on us to continue to do so without losing sight of our underlying commitment to contribute to the betterment of the Canadian economy and society.
