A GUIDE TO CRITICAL ILLNESS INSURANCE 13 Exclusions specific to your coverage Based on your own health history, your individual policy may be offered with an exclusion. For instance, one or more medical conditions could be excluded based on your medical history. This will be clearly indicated in your policy, so you will know the limitation being applied to your coverage. Pre-existing covered condition exclusion In some contracts, typically group or association plans, the payment of a benefit may also be subject to a pre-existing condition clause. This clause may apply in specific circumstances early in your coverage, during the period of time specified in your policy. The critical illness benefit may not be approved if: • you had signs or symptoms of; or • you were prescribed medications for; or • you consulted with a physician for; or • you were diagnosed with the covered condition within a specified time frame before your coverage starts. As always, with exclusions, it's important to review these policy details closely and consult with your agent or insurer. UNDERSTANDING WHAT MIGHT BE EXCLUDED FROM YOUR POLICY Tip: If your policy is offered through a group or association plan, you may have a plan administrator who can explain how these exclusions will affect you.
